19june2009- Jump Rope For Heat

Jump Rope For Heat

Tonight we thought it would be a good idea to jump rope. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but let’s review all the factors that went into making this decision and you can be the judge.

First of all, it was about 9 o’clock at night and the temperature had dropped to a balmy 96 degrees. Granted at first, 96 degrees doesn’t seem the ideal temperature to jump rope in, but it was the coolest it had been in 4 days so we thought we had best take advantage of it.

Secondly, LaLa, who was a M-Fuge Staffer (and his real name really is “LaLa”) is the best jump roper in the history of the world. He can do some crazy hand feet jumping craziness that Hope told us about and we really wanted to see.

Thirdly, LaLa had a jump rope handy, and we, as adult chaperones, always said that if there were a jump rope handy, we would, if at all possible, stop what we were doing and jump rope.

Fourthly, for some reason the boys thought that this would be a great opportunity to impress their camp girlfriends so they fully supported it. (They hadn’t thought through the whole scenario that they were, in fact, not very good jump ropers.)

Fifthly, which I am not even sure is a word, Hope and I are very adventurous and spontaneous. Two things every parent wants in a youth trip chaperone.

For proof that adventurous and spontaneous are the way to go with youth trip chaperones, click HERE to see Hope and Madison spontaneously catching a ride on the back of the bus. What an adventure!

Anyway, Hope and I decided that if jumping rope was a good idea in the middle of the parking lot, it would be an even better idea in the middle of the field in the quad.

Buuut we went to the field in the middle in the quad and there wasn’t anyone at all in the field in the quad because they were in food court downstairs because they were giving away free pizza. In the middle of the food court could work, we thought…

So we took our jump rope into the dead center of the food court and started swinging it. The kids LOVED it, and they jumped for almost an hour.

The Samford University people never said anything but they sure looked at us like… you people are the chaperones???

If I were a youth I would want you & Hope to be my chaperones. And while the idea of random kids jumping rope in the middle of the quad makes me smile, this post also makes me a little sad because my life is missing Hope Poe.

Emily, what if you were TWO YUTES?
